Woodworking: Make a Hanging Cupboard

This event is no longer on sale.

Saturday September 14

10:00 AM  –  5:00 PM

In this workshop, you will make a Shaker-style hanging cupboard with a flat paneled door and two shelves, based on an example in the Hancock collection. This charming pine cupboard, ideal for storing small items, is 18” x 11”.  All pieces will be pre-cut for assembly.

The workshop is perfect for a beginning or intermediate woodworker (especially someone interested in learning more about Shaker craftsmanship and construction). You will gain skills in hand-planing, sanding, chiseling, and nailing. You will also learn how to attach hinges and door hardware. Your choice of finish can be applied at home. The workshop includes an opportunity to go behind the scenes to see similar wooden objects in the collection.

REGISTRATION FEE:  $110/99 members (includes Village admission)

MATERIALS FEE:  In addition to the registration fee, a $50 materials fee (cash only) is payable directly to the instructor.

Recommended tools to bring (if you have them): Hammer, small nail set, Phillips screwdriver, sharp chisel, sharp hand plane, try square, utility knife

Instructor: Peter Forward. A master carpenter and cabinetmaker with more than forty years of experience, Peter has a long-standing interest in Shaker history and design. He enjoys traditional hand-working methods and often uses tools passed down through his family from his great-great grandfather, a joiner in the 1870s.
