Workshop: Weave a Cathead Bread Basket

Date: Saturday, October 23, 2021

Time: 10:00 am-3:30 pm (includes a 30 minute lunch break)

Fees: $50/$45 members plus a $20 materials fee (cash only) payable directly to the instructor

Description: Woven in reed, this shorter version of a traditional Shaker Cathead Basket is 4” deep and 11” diameter with pointed or “cat ear” feet. A perfect size for bread and rolls or as a catch all on the counter. Woven over a class mold for a perfect shape.

Suitable for ages 14 and up, no experience needed.

Instructor: Sandy Salada. A basket maker since 1995, Sandy weaves a variety of baskets, including patterns of her own design, patterns by other teachers, and reproductions of cultural and historical baskets. Sandy teaches in her home studio as well as at Shaker Heritage Society in Watervliet, New York, and at Hancock Shaker Village.

Workshop Safety Precautions 

Participants will be spaced at least 6’ apart.

Masks must be worn regardless of vaccination status.

Sanitized tools will be provided OR participants can bring the following: small bath towel, pencil, kitchen scissors or sharp desk scissors, flexible tape measure
