Shaker Oval Box Workshop
Saturday, June 11, and Sunday, June 12 (two-day workshop)
10 am to 3 pm (Saturday), 10 am to 2 pm (Sunday)

Make your own #2- and  #3-sized traditional Shaker oval boxes!  

• Day 1: Learn to carve swallow tails, prepare wood for bending, bend the boxes, and fit wood onto drying forms. 
• Day 2: Measure and cut box tops and bottoms, fit side bands, and tack into place.

Beginners welcome. Workshop also includes a behind-the-scenes tour of the Village’s woodworking-related collection.

Fees:  $150; $135 (Hancock Shaker Village members), plus a $25 materials fee (cash only) payable directly to the instructor. 

Instructor: Rick Ryer. An interpreter at Hancock Shaker Village since 2012, Ryer regularly gives demonstrations of oval box-making in the HSV Brethren's Shop.. He also blacksmiths in the Blacksmith Shop. He has taught oval box workshops since 2013.
