Makers & Shakers: The Luthier's Craft

This event is no longer on sale.

Saturday October 12

3:30 PM  –  5:00 PM

Lutherie, the art of creating stringed wooden instruments by hand, is a centuries-old practice steeped in tradition. This conversation draws together a new generation of luthiers—Trevor Healy (guitar maker, Easthampton, MA), Nathaniel Rowan (violin maker, Putney, VT), and William Seeders Mosheim (banjo maker, Dorset, VT)—three makers whose work honors and challenges tradition, ultimately pushing the craft forward. Following brief individual presentations, curator Sarah Margolis-Pineo will moderate a conversation with all three luthiers.

At 5 pm, we invite players and music lovers to join in on an old-time music jam, open to all skill levels.

“Makers & Shakers: The Luthier’s Craft” is organized in conjunction with the current exhibition, While Mighty Thunders Roll: Popular Artists Sing the Shakers, on view through November 11, 2019.
