Photography Workshop: Introduction to Light Painting

Light painting photography is the art form that uses handheld lights to “paint” a scene while the shutter of the camera is left open during a long exposure. By shooting in a dark location and using the photographic technique of long exposure, flashes, streaks, colors, textures, and trails of light are created and captured without post-production work. Exposure times for light paintings can range from just a few seconds to an hour or more. Light painting: the art of capturing moving light, mixing painting with photography.
Required skills: Knowledge of manual settings for your camera.
Required equipment: DSLR camera, tripod, flashlight.
Suggested (not required): remote trigger for camera.
Instructor: Fred LeBlanc has worked as a professional commercial, corporate and editorial photographer for more than forty years. His award-winning photographs have been exhibited in museums, libraries, galleries and juried art shows and have been widely published. Fred is a member of the Springfield Photographic Society and has presented his photographic vision to camera clubs throughout New England. As a way of giving back to his profession, he teaches the art of digital photography in his print studio in South Hadley, at Greenfield Community College, and at Hancock Shaker Village
